Best of SoS – Kenny Ausubel

This past spring, Sustainable World Coalition co-produced the 2nd annual Spring of Sustainability (SoS), the largest virtual sustainability gathering ever. SoS brought the “best and brightest” leaders in sustainability to the world through teleconference dialogues.

Each week, in our Best of SoS feature, we review one of our favorite episodes. Like what you see? Head over to our upgrade page for a special offer to own the entire Spring of Sustainability series.

KennyAusubelKenny Ausubel, co-founder of Bioneers, joined us on Spring of Sustainability on April 9th with a rich overview of where we are at this critical point in our evolution and relationship to nature, and where we need to go from here — the big conversation that few grasp and articulate as brilliantly as he does.

Re-imagining civilization in the “age of nature” is indeed the central core of Bioneers, taking nature’s five-billion year blueprint of exquisite balance, diversity and vitality and applying it to human culture everywhere we can.

Facing the devastating effects of unsustainable practices over the long term, Kenny’s essential message is that the seven billion people in this world must come to realize that we are nature – that we are not separated from it in any way.

He stresses that it is crucial to find a way to educate people about nature and sustainability, and sees much of that education coming from the media and educational media programs such as the Sustainable World Coalition’s Spring of Sustainability.

Specifically, supporting women to come to the fore in leadership and management is essential — we need the feminine values of relationship, nurturing, safety, communication and sharing now more than ever, Kenny noted.

Kenny also explained how Bioneers has adopted a three-point program of focus:

  1. Decentralization — empowering local communities and regions to be as self-sufficient as possible.
  2. Education — developing their media and communications platform to be a comprehensive and accessible fount of resources and practical information.
  3. Leadership — enhancing their mentorship and trainings for aspiring leaders in all walks of life, and strengthening their network of leaders throughout the world.
